Stolen Heatpump

Burglary Claim – March 2018

Background

Ethan owned a rental property in Nelson which he insured with Initio in July 2015.  While the property was vacant between tenants, Ethan took the opportunity to complete some general maintenance to the home.  On the third day of work, Ethan arrived at the property and discovered the outside heatpump unit was missing.  When he entered the property, he found the inside heatpump unit had been taken as well, Ethan couldn’t believe it!  So he called the police, who came to take fingerprints and document the burglary.  They didn’t hold out much hope for catching the offender.

Claim Process

Ethan logged into his dashboard on the Initio website to tell them about his new claim and uploaded photos, showing where the heatpump units had been.  Initio accepted Ethan’s claim and advised him to replace the stolen units with the equivalent models and email the invoice for reimbursement.

Outcome

Ethan sent Initio an invoice for $3,175.20 and Initio reimbursed him $2,525.20 ($3,175.20 invoice minus $650.00 excess) the next day.
