New policy for Homeowner's Contents

From 1 January 2019 the initio Homeowners Contents policy is changing.  We’ve added some extra benefits, enhanced and simplified some of the existing covers, and we’ve put in some restrictions.

This is a summary of the good, the improvements, and the not so good.

New Benefits

Contents in storage

If you inform us that your contents are in storage, and we have approved the storage arrangement, your contents will be covered for defined perils whilst in storage. Causes covered include; fire, storm, natural disaster and theft following a break in to the building.

Contents in transit

Your contents are covered whilst in transit from your home to your new home where the damage is caused by a defined peril, including a motor vehicle accident.

Electronic data and programs

You’re covered for your licensed computer software, programs and digital data on your storage device that suffer loss or damage in an event covered under the contents section of this policy. There’s no cover for re-installing, re-setting or recreating the software, programs or data, or for loss or damage caused by a computer virus.

Fatal Injury

If your death is caused by fire, burglars or thieves at your home, we will pay $10,000

Frozen Food

If your freezer (or fridge) suddenly stops (including breaking down or accidentally turning off) we will pay to replace the perished items.

Changes to cover for high value items

Specified Items

Money, bullion, unset precious stones, credit and debit cards, and stamps not being part of a collection are now covered for $1,000.

You are now covered up to $3,000 for any remotely piloted aircraft (including its parts and accessories that are in it or attached to it).

Bicycles (not specified on the policy) are now covered up to $2,000 per bike (previously $3,000)

Add high value items anytime

All other limits remain the same.  For example, unspecified jewellry and watches are covered for up to $3,000 per item.

You can specify items over these limits through your initio dash, anytime.

See the limits on high value items here

Clarification to exisiting cover

Specified Items

Specified items cover now defines that any surfboard, windsurfer, paddleboard, kite surfer, surf ski, dinghy, kayak or canoe (including their parts and accessories that are in them or attached to them) is covered up to $2,000.  Bikes also covered up to $2,000.  Items with a higher value can still be insured but need to be specified (you can specify items at anytime through your dashboard)

Unless a different maximum payment amount is shown in the schedule, the most we will pay for any event for multiple items of jewellery and watches that are not specified items is $15,000. For example, if you lose 10 pieces of jewellery, each with a value of $2,000, the most we will pay is $15,000.

Home Office

The most we will pay for any event has reduced to $10,000. But you now automatically receive $1,000 of cover for home office equipment that is temporarily removed from your home.

Legal liability

Your legal liability cover has reduced to $1,000,000 for damage to another person’s property, but has been extended to cover liability for another person’s accidental death or bodily injury in connection with your home or its grounds. The limit is GST inclusive. Defence costs you incur with our prior approval are now covered on top of this. Clarification that there’s no cover for liability in connection with seepage, pollution or contamination, unless it occurs during the period of cover and is caused by a sudden and accidental event that occurs during the period of cover.

Children living away from home

For children living away from home who are studying, and are not living in accommodation provided by the education facility, the limit for a single item has reduced to $500.

Credit cards

The limit of cover for the irrecoverable amount you have lost if your card has been used fraudulently has reduced to $500. There is no longer any cover to pay the outstanding credit card balance following your death or total disablement.

Motor Vehicle accessories

You are no longer covered for motor vehicle accessories that are attached to your employers vehicle.
